How a Condom Catheter Helps

The condom catheter is a unique device that can empower many individuals to improve control over bodily fluids. It is ideal for those men who have no or little control over their bladder functions. This type of external catheter men can wear with relative ease. In wearing it, the individual is able to go about his or her daily life while not having to worry about embarrassing accidents. It works in various settings, including in the hospital, in home nursing care, in nursing facilities as well as for those who are caring for loved ones. For many people, it is an easy to use solution to otherwise uncontrollable male incontinence.

The device works much like a condom works. It is applied to the tip of the penis and unrolled over the top. It remains in place usually with clips at the base that attach to clothing or something else (such as a jockey strap style undergarment.) The device collects urine as it flows out of the penis. The urine runs from the condom like device down through a tube at the tip. That tube connects to a collection bag. The collection bag is often tied to the leg and can be placed under clothing. In other cases, it can hang off the bed or under the bed. This makes the condom catheter one of the best tools for managing the condition. (more…)
