Physical Therapy And Strokes
Most of us think of physical therapy being only for work related injuries, or when someone is hurt playing sports. However, folks with serious medical problems, like stroke can benefit from modern physical therapy. When someone you know has suffered from a stroke you should get as much stroke news as you can possibly absorb. First there is the hospital stay, then doctor follow up visits, then physical therapy.
When a person suffers a stroke his muscles may not remember how to perform certain actions like, sitting and walking. The person must re-learn these steps thru physical therapy. The stroke victim is likely to receive occupational therapy which will teach him how to chew and swallow food as well as dress himself. On the other hand, physical therapy concentrates on making the patient mobile. With this therapy the patient will learn how to sit, stand, walk, get out of bed and get out of car by themselves.
